Kolkata: The grief-stricken parents of the Kultali rape-murder victim reached Nabanna on Monday afternoon, seeking justice from CM
Mamata Banerjee. Accompanied by Trinamool MLA Saokat Molla, they demanded that the accused be sentenced to death by hanging. Banerjee assured them of all support and pledged that state govt would take necessary measures to ensure that the rapist was brought to justice swiftly.
Bengal govt had formed an
SIT to investigate the case. However, the girl’s parents requested the inclusion of a specific officer in the SIT.
The 9-year-old girl was was found in a ditch near her home on Oct 5. Enraged villagers vandalised the Mahishmari police outpost and set it ablaze. Cops arrested Mostakin Sardar (19) based on CCTV footage.
Cops had moved HC to remove legal roadblocks for conducting the postmortem. Justice Tirthankar Ghosh on Oct 6 directed the autopsy to be conducted at AIIMS Kalyani. The HC also asked the police to add Pocso sections. The postmortem took place at Kalyani JNM Hospital by doctors from AIIMS Kalyani.
Villagers surrounded MP Pratima Mondal when she attempted to meet the parents. Opposition netas had also reached the village. FIRs were lodged against CPM netas Menakshi Mukherjee and Dipsita Dhar and BJP’s Agnimitra Paul and Priyanka Tibrewal.
